Course Objective

After this course trainees will have a greater understanding of the possible injuries and illnesses that could affect children and know that gaining immediate professional care is vital to ensure that pain and suffering is reduced as much as possible.

  • Action planning
  • Treatment of an unconscious child and infant
  • Resuscitation
  • Shock
  • Bleeding including nose bleeds
  • Choking
  • Foreign objects including eyes and nose
  • Burns and scalds
  • Poisoning, bites and stings
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Electric Shock
  • Sprains, strains and fractures
  • Head, neck and back injuries
  • Asthma and diabetic emergencies
  • Seizures and febrile convulsions
  • Other childhood conditions (e.g. measles, meningitis, croup).

Intended To

This course is for people working with younger children such as Childminders, Teachers, Nursery Workers and Nannies, but it will also be useful for anyone with a responsibility for caring for infants and children.
